Dog Health & Weather in San Francisco, CA

Cool and foggy with mild year-round temperatures. Microclimates vary dramatically by neighborhood. Live conditions updated hourly.

Good morning, SF dog parents!

Don't let the clouds fool ya, that 84°F air feels brutal, and the asphalt is a sizzling 94°F.

Today's unusual 84°F heat and 74% humidity are a double whammy for our pups. For flat-faced friends like French Bulldogs, this means labored breathing and a higher risk of heatstroke, but all dogs are at risk. That 94°F asphalt is no joke on any paws; keep walks to before 9 AM or after 7 PM.

🩺With the heat feeling like 86°F and 74% humidity, heatstroke is a real danger. Monitor for excessive panting, lethargy, or stumbling, and have fresh water accessible at all times.
✂️The high 74% humidity combined with the heat can create hot spots, especially for dogs with denser coats or skin folds. Ensure good air circulation around their skin, particularly in areas like a Frenchie's facial folds, to prevent irritation.
🤧Pollen counts are thankfully low today (all 0s!), and AQI is a great 19. However, our allergy-prone Frenchies still need monitoring; keep an eye out for dust or mold if you're using fans indoors for cooling.
🎾Skip the usual midday stroll up Twin Peaks. Today's 94°F asphalt makes Fort Funston too risky for paws outside the cool hours. Instead, try some indoor puzzle toys or a very early/late potty break in the shade.

That 94°F ground temp can cause second-degree burns in just 60 seconds. Our pups' paws are more sensitive than our feet, making that heat even more dangerous today.

Today's Health Notes

Breed-specific advice for French Bulldogs in today's conditions.

🩺 Vet

At this humidity, your flat-faced pup can't cool down through panting. Watch for wide-mouth breathing or a dark tongue — that's heat distress starting. Keep walks under 10 minutes and carry water.

✂️ Groomer

Humidity + wrinkles = skin fold infections. Wipe between facial folds with a dry cloth after any time outside. Moisture trapped in wrinkles breeds bacteria and yeast overnight.

🤧 Allergist

High humidity is the worst breathing trigger for flat-faced breeds. Moist air makes already-narrow airways swell further. If you hear wet, rattling breaths today, keep them in air conditioning — it's not just uncomfortable, it's an airway risk.

🎾 Trainer

Flat-faced dogs benefit from nose work training in hot weather — hide treats around the house and let them search. It's low-intensity physically but exhausting mentally. Cool down, not slow down.

Summer Risks

Fog and wind can make coastal areas surprisingly cold even in summer. Inland neighborhoods like the Mission can be 15-20°F warmer than the Sunset.

Winter Risks

Minimal cold risk. Rain from November through March makes trails muddy and slippery.

Year-Round Health Considerations
  • Foxtail grass seeds (spring/summer — can puncture skin and ears)
  • Coyote encounters in parks
  • Extreme microclimate variation by neighborhood
  • Steep terrain hard on joints
